OBITUARY

LaVerne Anne Ensign, loving wife and mother, passed away May 21, 2020 from complications due to stroke, in her daughter’s home in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by her entire family. She was 85 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord A. Ensign and other family members who welcomed her to Heaven with open arms.

LaVerne is survived by her nine children and their families; Leandra and Eric (deceased) Snow, David and Leah Ensign, Bryan and LeAnne Ensign, Curt and Allison Ensign, Laura and Mason Padilla, Darren and Holly Ensign, Jayson and Emily Ensign, Adam Ensign, and Amie and Kevin Montgomery. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Towner, and sister, Judy Hasty.

LaVerne was born in Alameda, California to Robert and Ingrid Towner. She later moved to Avenal while in high school and became the head cheerleader. She soon fell in love with the football quarterback and began an eternal companionship that produced a legacy of a loving family. Married in 1957, they raised a family of nine children which grew into a family of 35 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

LaVerne lived to serve and loved those she served. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served many years as the president of the Relief Society, 22 years as girls camp director, and countless time as a gifted teacher and a natural leader. She was always at someone’s door with a hot meal, an encouraging word, and a loving smile.

She loved to read, cook, do puzzles, go camping, and write poetry. But most of all she loved to be with her family. With traditions like Christmas caroling, Couples Caper, and trips to Morro Bay, she created closeness and family unity and orchestrated ways to strengthen the family bond and create rich family experiences.

We will miss our sweet mother, grandmother, sister, friend and teacher but we know that with Dad now by her side she is enjoying every minute of looking down on her family and smiling.

IN  THE  GARDEN

by C. Austin Miles

I come to the garden alone,

While the dew is still on the roses,

And the voice I hear,

Falling on my ear,

The Son of God discloses.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice

Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,

And the melody

That He gave to me,

Within my heart is ringing.

I’d stay in the garden with Him

Tho’ the night around me be falling,

But He bids me go;

Thro’ the voice of woe

His voice to me is calling.

CHORUS

And He walks with me,

And He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own;

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

None other has ever known.

“May God touch you

with His healing hand

and give you the peace and comfort

you need to get through.”

Anon.
