OBITUARY
Karren Aileen Carlson Smith was the 3rd child to Tyyni and Lawrence Carlson and grew up in Hayward, California. She is preceded in death by her older siblings William Carlson and Loretta Hallbert and survived by her younger siblings, Greta Lynne Carlson Andersson and John Carlson. She married the love of her life Charles Thomas Smith. She was a long time resident of Livermore, California and Atwater, California. Mom gave birth to 8 children over the course of 21 years. Kim, Robert, Kellee, Kevin (Kimberlee), Thomas (Jennifer), Edward, Kenneth and Kaarin. She was the grandmother of 6 grandchildren, Linzy, Benjamin (Macie), Sara, Rebecca, Katherine and Maddix and 1 great grandchild, Renae. Mom wasn’t funny but could find the funny in any situation. She had an infectious laugh and a generous heart. Her home was open to all strangers. She played the piano and was the epitome of a 1950s homemaker, cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing,, all the busyness of running a home. She had an affinity to take in all things and care for them in her way. She talked to plants and cared for animals as if they could return the love she poured into them. She was the most unprepared organized person we knew. She had lists for packing but was never prepared for catastrophes in the car.. She had the potty moth in the home and very few ‘isms don’t involve a bad word. Her life’s work was done at home. She only earned money outside the home later in life for a brief time. Her faith was planted firmly in the gospel and she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had several volunteer jobs in the church from nursery leader and Primary teacher, to piano player to teaching the women in the church. She was soccer mom, home room mom, band booster mom and merit badge counselor for her boys.. Mom was a doer and was always busy doing. She can rest now.
SAFELY HOME
I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting life.
All the pain is gone.
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home
In Heaven at last.
Jesus himself came to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus’ arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,
Pray to trust our Father’s will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth –
You shall rest in Jesus’ land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
“May God touch you
with His healing hand
and give you the peace and comfort
you need to get through.”
Anon.
