I’M FREE
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now. He set me free.
“May God touch you
with His healing hand
and give you the peace and comfort
you need to get through.”
Anon.
OBITUARY
Virginia was the co-owner of Naples Bakery, later called Mazzella’s Bakery, and Mazzella’s Manicotti Restaurant with her husband, Paul.
She was born in Puerto Rico and later moved to the Bronx, New York where she met Paul. They decided to come to the Golden State to set down roots. In 1965 they drove across the country to Los Angeles where daughter, Irene was born. In 1967 they bought a bakery on B and Merced Street on the west side of Fresno. They made many friends while baking and delivering the wonderful bread for so many restaurants and sandwich shops. In the early years, when they delivered to supermarkets, their trademark roll was called the “Baby Irene” after their daughter.
Virginia was the Boss. At 4’ 10” she was a force to be reckoned with, always there for her extended family of In-laws, her beloved granddaughter, Ivana Wedel, and many nieces and nephews, taking everyone under her wing. She prepared feasts at holidays, loved trips to the ocean to fish, but her favorite place was a casino.
Virginia’s love and affection will be missed by all who knew her.
