MINUTES  MAKE  ETERNITY

Life is just a minute –

Only 60 seconds in it.

Freely given –

Said you’d choose it.

Now it’s up to you

To use it.

You must suffer

If you lose it.

Give an account

If you abuse it.

Just a tiny, little minute

But eternity is in it.

OBITUARY

Brad W. Kirk, dedicated husband and family man, successful business leader, involved community and civic member, friend to many, and follower of Christ, died of a stroke at age 61 in Naga, Philippines.

Brad was presiding over a proselytizing mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Naga, Philippines, with his wife, Shirley, when he suffered a stroke and brain hemorrhage on Monday, September 2nd, 2019. He passed peacefully two days later. He had only recently retired as the Senior Vice President of Global Accounts from Lyons, a global foodservice provider where he had worked since 1985. Through his unmatched work ethic and force of personality, he parlayed continual sales growth and success into larger territories and accounts. A man who genuinely and sincerely cared about other people, he took advantage of opportunities in both his church service and sales career to springboard thousands of acquaintances into lifelong friendships along the way.

Bradley Wayne Kirk was born on July 29, 1958, to Marjorie and Lyle Kirk, in Houston, Texas. Following the example of his elder brother Jeff whom he greatly admired, he attended BYU where he majored in music. After his freshman year, he volunteered as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was assigned the Philippines Manila mission in 1977 at the age of 19. This began his lifelong love of Filipino people and culture. As one of the first Americans in his mission to learn Tagalog, he was tasked to develop a language learning program and toured half of the Philippines teaching it to his fellow missionaries.

This was just the beginning of his leadership innovation and drive. In addition to running Lyons’ National Accounts sales organization and holding various church callings such as High Council member, Stake Executive Secretary, and Bishop, Brad founded and served as President of The Exchange Foodservice Professionals’ Society. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Central Valley Chapter of Ronald McDonald Charity House, donated his time to numerous other causes, and was the recipient of numerous industry awards.

As one of his friends, Larry Newell, recently wrote of him: “Without a doubt, Brad’s ability to turn acquaintances into friends was amazing and one of the reasons he is so special to so many. Without a doubt, Brad has more friends than anyone I’ve ever known.”

Brad is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley, three children - Ryan, Ethan, and Lindy, and 9 grandchildren.

“May God touch you

with His healing hand

and give you the peace and comfort

you need to get through.”

Anon.
